Tufts University Dowling Parking Garage

Boston

Tufts University in Boston Massachutes is "going green" with its Climate Initiative. One aspect of this movement is converting from metal halide fixtures to LEDs in their Dowling Parking Garage. This conversion represented an opportunity for Tufts University to save a significant amount of energy in addition to minimizing their impact on the environment.

They chose to partner with Lighting Science Group to achieve this goal. The original 150W metal halide luminaires were replaced with the Lighting Science Group’s Low Bay luminaire.

The total project, which includes replacing other light sources in the parking garage will, reduce kW demand 56% without compromising light levels. Energy and maintenance savings will total over $27K. It is estimated that CO2 emissions will be reduced by over 38 tons per year, equivalent to the emissions created by heating 11 New England homes. The University will realize it’s payback for this piece of the Climate Initiative in just 3 years.
