Gossamer Galaxies Display

Case Study PDF Videos Awards

In the lobby of the Trinity Building at the headquarters of Radio Shack Corporation, hangs Gossamer Galaxies, an ethereal sculpture of light. This sinuous sculpture by Michael Hayden, curves and spirals above the grand staircase in the lobby of this Ft. Worth Texas building, creating an astounding interactive “gossamer” bridge of light. To create "Gossamer Galaxies," Lighting Science Design Works developed a system of 12 strategically positioned motion sensors. Each sensor interacts with movements in the lobby to create ever-changing LED light patterns that streak through the sculpture, resulting in a constantly active light display.
